Save on Popcorn and Soda at Regal Cinema!

Regal Cinema has a mobile coupon for a $2.00 small popcorn and $2.00 small soda, December 26th through January 1st.  Visit Regal Cinemas Facebook page by clicking here.  Type in your mobile number and they will text you the coupon.  When you order your popcorn, show the clerk your mobile coupon and she will take the code off your phone to get your discount.  The coupon is also valid for UA and Edwards Theatre.

Don't let your eyes be bigger then your stomach.  Actually a small popcorn and small soda is plenty for a movie.  I couldn't finish my small popcorn and soda the last time we went to the movies.

Make sure you "LIKE" Regals Facebook pages so you can get the weekly mobile coupons.

**We did have one issue with the mobile coupon.  We had it sent to both our phones so we could each get popcorn and soda.  They could only use my coupon, because you need the data package on your cell phone to pull up the coupon code link and my husband doesn't have the data package.

Make Ahead Monday Dinner Review!

Sorry I am posting this after 8 pm.   This was one of those nights where I was on the go and ate late!  Tonight we had Chicken and Roasted Vegetable Dinner.  There was only 3 of us tonight.  The meal had nice flavor and the house smelled great when we walked in.  The chicken was a little on the dry side, but the vegetable were very good.  The small pearl onions really added to the flavor.  When I asked my 6 year old how he liked it, he said the chicken was dry and he didn't like the vegetables.  So I guess tonight only the adults in the house like dinner.  My husband and I rate this meal a 7.

Today my husband took the picture for me because I wasn't home when they started eating.  So this was the best picture of the two.  I am still laughing at the second picture.  I asked him to take one of the crock pot and one with the food on the plate.  Let's just say he tried and I love him for helping me out with my blog.

If you have a recipe you would like us to try, let me know. We would love to try it!

The recipe for this was posted yesterday if you would like to try it.

HOW WE RATE THE DINNER FROM 1 - 10.

1 - PLEASE DON'T MAKE THAT AGAIN!

10 - THAT WAS AWESOME CAN WE HAVE THAT AGAIN!

One more last minute gift idea for him!

It never hurts to ask!

Are you planning a holiday party?  Will you be serving cocktails?  Wouldn't it be nice if you could save money on the ingredients for those cocktails.  Well you just might, if you ask!  Before you check out, make sure you ask if any of the bottles you are purchasing has a mail in rebate.  Or maybe there is something comparable that does have a rebate.  The store near my home has a little basket on the end of the counter with all the rebates in it.  Your store probably has them also, just ask!

I hope you enjoy these savings, but please remember to drink responsibly.  I love having you as part of my blog family.  It wouldn't be the same without you here!

Have a safe and fun holiday!

BK's new Fries - Like or Dislike?

You could tell that is was FREE Fries day at Burger King.  The line was longer then I have ever seen there.  It was kind of funny listening to these young high school boys in line talking to each other about how to ask for their free fries.  It must have been the first time they ever got free stuff with out the help of their parents.  Well you are waiting for my response regarding if I liked or disliked the new fries recipe so I'll stop talking about people waiting in line.  I actually LIKED the new fries.  I don't feel like they were a lot different, but they did seem lighter and crispier.  My friend also thought they were good and were crispier.  So that is two (2) LIKES.

Did you get your FREE fries?  Did you like or dislike them?  Post a comment and let me know.  I love reading your comments.

Something new and she actually liked it!

Tonight we tried Old El Paso Mexican Rice.  When I pulled it out of the pantry I thought I was going to be the only one eating it.  It was something new and my kids are usually picky. It was the easiest thing I have ever cooked.  You cut a one (1) inch opening in the top of the pack for venting, place it in the microwave and cook for 60 seconds.  When I pulled it out of the microwave my 16 year old daughter said, "boy that smells spice".  So I didn't think she would even try it .  But I was wrong.  She actually liked it and said it had good flavor.  Can you believe it, she liked it, something new!  My husband and I also liked it, my son wouldn't try it though.  Next time I am at the store I am going to see if they have other flavors.  You should try it!

Easy cooking and a happy family, that's what I love!

Make Ahead Monday Dinner Review!

Tonight we had Pork Roast with Sweet Potatoes.  There was only three of us eating tonight.  We all really liked it.  This was the first time I cooked sweet potatoes for dinner other then on a holiday.  It was a nice change.  Everything was cooked perfect.  The roast was very moist and and easy to cut.  The potatoes were tender and not to mushy.  My husband and I both gave this a 9.  My 6 year old son doesn't like sweet potatoes, but he gave the pork a 10.  I will definitely make this meal again in the future and I recommend that you make it for your family to try sometime.

If you have a recipe you would like us to try, let me know. We would love to try it!

The recipe for this was posted yesterday if you would like to try it.

HOW WE RATE THE DINNER FROM 1 - 10.

Santa just made my son's night!

He just received a video from Santa in my email inbox.  We were so surprised that Santa knew my email address.  He loved the video so much we had to watch it a couple of times.  Santa knew so much about him and even had pictures of him, his sister and us.  He knew his favorite color, the special toy he wants, what he has accomplished last year and what he would like him to work hard on this coming year.

Your child can also receive a video from Santa.  It is very easy to make and it's FREE!  It took me about 5 minutes.  You fill out the magical form with a few questions about your child, upload a few pictures and you are done.  Within a few minutes you have the video in your inbox.  It is that easy.  Click here to hop over to Magic Santa by Sympatico.ca.

I would like to thank Freebies 4 Mom for sharing this on her Facebook page.  Freebies 4 Mom is one of my favorite blogs.

I hope you enjoy the video!

Christmas Challenge!

We all get a lot of pleasure in saving time and money.  This Holiday season you can also get a lot of pleasure out of giving that time and money you have saved.  Now there are only 14 days left until Christmas and I am challenging everyone to give a little of what you have save whether it is time or money back to your local community.  A lot of families are struggling this year due to various reasons across our country.  If you have saved some time in your life, then take your family and volunteer to help at your local food bank or soup kitchen.  If you have saved money using coupons this week, take the money and donate it to one of your local charities who is helping families during the holidays.  Whether you saved $.50 or $100.00, it all can make a difference for someone.

This Holiday season show your family the pleasures of giving a little of what you saved.  It not only will make a difference for the family you help, but will make a difference for your family.

GIVING A LITTLE MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE!

I would love to hear your comments if your family takes on this challenge or you are going to share it with your followers.  Please share this challenge with your family, friends and followers and get them involved in giving.

Happy Holidays,

Katie

Make Ahead Monday Dinner Review!

Tonight we had Chicken Bacon & Swiss Melts.  My family had different views of this meal.  My husband gave this dinner an 8 out of 10, I gave it a 5 and the kids gave it 1.  If I make this again, I would definitely prepare it a little different.  The chicken was very moist, however I felt cooking it on low for 8 hours was to long.  The stuffing was over cooked and really not edible.   Next time I would put the stuffing on top with a little more liquid.

If you have a recipe you would like us to try, let me know. We would love to try it!

HOW WE RATE THE DINNER FROM 1 - 10.

1 - PLEASE DON'T MAKE THAT AGAIN!
5 - IT WAS OKAY WE CAN TRY IT AGAIN!
10 - THAT WAS AWESOME CAN WE HAVE THAT AGAIN!

Make Ahead Monday!

Make Ahead Monday is coming back Monday, December 5th.  We were so busy over the last 3 months that even making a meal ahead didn’t work because we didn’t have time to eat it.  By the time we got home, we only had a chance to change, gather up everyone and head out the door to youth football and cheerleading.  Needless to say, we frequented McDonald’s and Subway a lot during this time or ate later in the evening when we got home.  I have missed Make Ahead Monday’s and sharing my families reviews on the meals.  I would like you to have the opportunity to cook the same meal as I am on Monday and comment on how your family liked or disliked the meal also.  So I am going to post the ingredients for Monday’s meal on Sunday morning so you can shop for the items you don’t have in your pantry.  On Monday morning I will post the recipe.  In the evening on Monday, I will post my families review.  Feel free to post your families reviews of the meal in the comment section of that post.  My family also gives the meal a number of 1 – 10.  1 meaning…Please don’t make that again!  5 meaning…That was ok we can try it again!   10 meaning…That was so AWESOME can we have it again!

As a busy mom on the go having all or part of dinner ready when we get home is a huge time saver.  I hope you join me in making a new crockpot meal every Monday.  If you have a crockpot recipe you would like my family to try, please share it with me.

See you in the kitchen,
Katie

Do you know how to choose the PERFECT Christmas Tree?

A friend of mine owns Morgan Hillside Tree Farm in Windsor, NY.  I asked her, how do you pick out the perfect Christmas Tree?  This is her reply.

How to pick a perfect Christmas tree

Decide when the right time is to place your tree, then gather your family to go visit a tree farm. Make sure you are dressed appropriate for the weather. And bring a camera, this is a perfect time for great pictures!
Before you leave home, measure the height of the ceiling in the room where you will display your tree, remember to leave about a foot of space, for your tree topper as well as the tree stand.
Decide what kind of tree you prefer, Balsam fir, Douglas fir, Fraser fir, Noble fir and Scotch pine hold their needles well. When selecting a tree, run your fingers along the needles and give the tree a shake. If the tree is fresh, the needles should be pliable. Some will fall off, this is a natural shedding, especially with the warmer weather we are experiencing this year. Make sure the base of the tree is straight and long enough to fit easily into the tree stand.

If you buy a pre-cut tree, have about an inch cut off the base to make it easier for the tree to take in water. If you don’t plan to put the tree up right away, place it in a bucket of warm water and stand it in an unheated garage or porch away from the wind and cold.

How to maintain your Christmas Tree
Make sure your stand holds an adequate amount of water, usually at least a gallon. Keep your tree well watered. The first day it may drink up to a gallon of water, then several quarts a day, so check often to prevent the cut from sealing over, which will prevent water intake. There is no need to add anything to the water, plenty of fresh warm, water is best.

Do not place your tree near a heat source. If you have pets or small children, trim lower branches to prevent eye injuries. And hang all fragile ornaments, as well as those with small parts on higher branches, if you prefer with florist wire. Secure your tree to the ceiling, wall or floor to prevent it from tipping over, by itself or aided by children or pets.
After you checked the lights to make sure they work, and have no frayed wires, make sure you place them so you can secure the wires out of sight if possible, to prevent pets from chewing on them. Turn lights off when you go to bed or leave the house.

When it is time to take down your tree, you can wrap it in an old sheet, to help catch shedding needles, or before you place the tree put a tree bag you can easily pull over tree when the time has come.

Please check with your local government for tree recycling.  Broome County website for more info: http://www.gobroomecounty.com

If you live in Broome or Delaware County  and would like to cut down your own tree, stop by Morgan Hillside Tree Farm, 2135 Old Rt. 17, Windsor, NY.  For more information visit their facebook page Morgan Hillside Tree Farm or call 607-467-3297.

Don't forget Cyber Monday!

Cyber Monday is tomorrow, November 28th.  Are you ready to get those Cyber deals?  Here are a few tips I found to help us all with shopping on Cyber Monday.

I found these recommendations and tips on CBSNews.com.

Best Overall:

Amazon and Zappos

Amazon really pioneered online-only shopping and they continue to do so. We connected with the company and they'll have a range of offers throughout the day along with "Lightning Deals." They show you the percentage off, which is a nice way to really get your head around how good a deal something is. Amazon Prime makes checking out incredibly fast, because you'll have a one-click buying option and free shipping on most items. Once people join Amazon Prime, Amazon tends to become their shopping default, meaning they'll check there before trying anywhere else.

You've got to hand it to Zappos. They offer free shipping both ways 365 days a year. I've never had an issue with them, and that includes returning several big boot boxes this fall. I should point out, they're known for shoes, but they now sell apparel, too, and offer free two-way shipping offer holds.

Best Electronics:

Walmart and Best Buy

Walmart's whole mantra is "everyday low prices" and that holds true online. This year they're reporting they'll have 250 online-only Cyber Week specials. Walmart.com actually has tons of items you won't find in their stores.

Best Buy is pulling out all the stops online this year. Their stores are known for having really helpful guys and girls in blue shirts to answer all your tech questions, and this year online, the site is pretty well organized to give gift giving suggestions. Electronics is such a hot category, so it's an area where people really do want to know what's hot for men, women, teens and kids. They've even got a tech gifts section for sports fans - win-win.

Best Jewelry Deal:

LivingSocial with Blue Nile

Living Social and Groupon are known for providing local deals. Watch for Living Social to really break out with some national deals. For instance, it's already been announced that BlueNile - the online jeweler - will be partnering with Living Social to offer $200 worth of merchandise for $100. So, right off the bat, you'd DOUBLE your buying power if you go this route. Then, using the $200 voucher on Blue Nile means you'll get more bling - and we're talking the real thing - for your buck. This is a Cyber Monday power move!

Best Creative Gift:
GetMaineLobster and Restoration Hardware

What's the point of having millions of items to select from online, if you don't get a little creative. This idea will really get the recipients attention! You can deliver live lobsters or give a gift certificate to order live lobsters - and to be clear - they arrive moving in the box. The only issue is you need to be sure the recipient is around to receive the order and that the dog - having learned from experience - doesn't discover the package first. I like the idea of giving this gift and then enjoying it on New Year's. If you order on Cyber Monday, they're offering 40 percent off their Surf & Turf special. Good stuff.

Every year the Restoration Hardware stocking stuffers get better and better. They're not always cheap, but they're really unique - and there are hundreds of them - everything from Slinkys to survival kits in sardine cans.

Best Free Gift Wrapping:

Neiman Marcus

This is one of the best-kept secrets, especially if there's someone on your list you're trying to impress - a boss or an in-law perhaps - you can order an item on NeimanMarcus.com and they'll gift wrap it for free. They don't even offer that in the store. And, trust me, the gift will look like a million bucks. So, if you purchase an ornament that's $25, by the time Neiman's does their thing and it arrives, it'll look like the Royal Family sent it.

CYBER MONDAY PLANNING TIPS:

1. BE READY TO MOVE FAST

One of the things people get burned on is not understanding that it's not enough to have an item in your virtual shopping cart. Usually it's not yours until you actually complete the checkout process. In the case of "flash" or "lightning sales" - a limited quantity of a certain item being offered for a limited time at a certain price - minutes can matter. Amazon even has a ticker to show you how much time left you have to make final decision before you let go of the item. Here's what you can do to get ready: Consider registering with your favorite online shopping sites if you haven't already, because it makes the checkout process a lot quicker. Amazon even has one-click buying - it doesn't get faster than that. Of course, keep in mind, the whole "flash" concept is designed to create a sense of urgency. I am not suggesting you fall for that, but if you need a certain size in a particularly popular color and you find it at a price you like, hustle. Some of the best deals can go in a matter of minutes.

2. PICK YOUR CURRENCY

Not to ruin it for everyone, but even though online shopping feels like "magic" sometimes, there's no "magical" way to pay for the items. So, think ahead to what "currency" you want to use. You may have airline points or rewards points that can be used to increase your shopping budget or offset the cost. If you go this route, consider buying gift cards for yourself and then using them to shop, as the redemption rate is better -- sometimes twice as good -- as it is if you buy merchandise directly using points. Another power move that's even more popular this year is to make sure you're using a card that's earning cash-back rewards. In the case of Bank of America's BankAmericard, you can actually have the cash back deposited directly into your checking or savings account, so there's no change in behavior -- just shop as you normally would and then when you go to pay your bills, the cash-back you've earned will be there to draw on.

3. KNOW THE CODE

Coupon codes use to have an element of "secrecy." Now, they're widely available and can mean up to 15 to 40 percent off your entire purchase or be the difference between getting free shipping or not. Sometimes you have to seek them out. If you also get catalogs in the mail, check the catalog inserts for codes. Here's an insider tip: If you are not usually a real bargain bee or have not insisted on free shipping in the past, don't expect your catalog to be sprinkled with stickers offering the very best incentives. Offers are based on your shopping behavior to date and the incentives are calibrated accordingly. You can call the retailer or email their customer service to check if you have the "best" available code. Bottom line: If there is a box for a "promo code" as part of the checkout process that means it exists.

Many sites gather coupon codes or by googling the "name of retailer + coupon code." Some sources are RetailMeNot.com, CouponSherpa, CouponMountain, FatWallet, BradsDeals. There have been some scams in this arena. Remember: you should never have to pay for coupon codes.

It's also smart to sign up for email newsletters from your favorite retailers or "follow" them on Twitter and "friend" them on Facebook. Sometimes they'll reveal coupon codes there and you may have first-mover advantage on special offers revealed on the fly. You can always unsubscribe after the holidays.

I hope you find many great deals that save you a lot of money!  Thank you CBSNews.com for all the great information.

Happy Shopping!

Saving money can sometimes be exhausting!

You don't realize how exhausting saving money can be until you can't keep your eyes open any longer.  After long hours shopping late on Thanksgiving night and Black Friday then shopping again later Friday, 8 hours of sleep just doesn't seem like enough.  Then I have to ask myself, what did I really save?  Yes, I did get a few of the sales I wanted.  However, I also bought a few other sales items that I didn't need because I couldn't pass up the deal!  I know those other items will be used as gifts so I guess I shouldn't beat myself up over it!  I really didn't even see a lot of items I just had to have.  The best part was continuing the tradition of shopping on Black Friday with my sister in law.  Now our teenage daughters also join us!  The hustle and bustle of Black Friday is exhausting, but really makes for some great memories and we did save a bunch of money!

Zzzzz,

Katie

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends.  If you are traveling, I wish you a safe trip and no backed up traffic.

If you are going Black Friday shopping I hope you find many great money saving deals and don't have to wait in long lines to check out.

See you in the check out line!

Wegman's bakery is the best by far!

I have to admit I have become addicted to Wegman's cinnamon swirls.  Yes, I do enjoy something sweet with my coffee at work.  I used to stop at our local donut chain store on my way to work and would get frustrated because the drive thru line as well as the indoor line would be so long.  Then after waiting so long in line they wouldn't have the donut that I really wanted.  I can't say that I have ever had that problem at Wegman's.  When I stop on my way to work, I always get a great parking spot and never wait to get my donut because it is self serve.  The donuts, pastries and muffins are baked fresh daily, there is a large variation and the price is reasonable as well.  I usually don't have to wait in the check out line either.  I am in and out of there quick.  If you like to have that sweet treat with your coffee at work and drive by or near Wegman's it's well worth it to stop.  Especially when you take that first bite of your donut and it just melts in your mouth!

I am sure they are calorie FREE also!  :)

Enjoy,

Katie
